On Transformation……….
Your work is a way to serve humanity – not yourself. Serve it well.

Happy New Year! Blessed New Beginnings!
A new year is an opportunity to begin again. Some come up with a list of resolutions – a list of “new things” to do. What about an alternative? Did you ever think of changing your focus?
How do you feel about your job? Are you enthusiastic? Passionate? Whom do you serve at work? Are you focused on bringing home a paycheck? Many of you cannot find passion in your job, and once a task is done you feel weary. Sometimes weariness leads to burn out – feeling “used up” after decades of work. Do you see a thread of yourself in this? Could it be that your job focus lacks purpose and meaning? Could it be that you have been serving yourself?
Serving your (false) self or your ego brings only transient happiness, as the ego is never satisfied for long. Our egos harass and critique us finding a new goal soon after one is achieved. Often we celebrate an accomplishment by looking for the next mountain to climb. How long do you celebrate an achievement? Long enough to let it sink into your heart? We cannot serve the world or God by omitting our hearts.
When you change your focus you can see your work as a way to serve humankind, not yourself. It becomes an opportunity for meaning and purpose through giving to others. No matter what the task you are hired to do, you serve most effectively through your humanity. While relating to coworkers, bosses, consultants or contractors, you speak with kindness while using your heart. You attend to tasks using the seeds of your spirit: kindness, love, compassion, gratitude, peace, generosity and faith. It is almost always to the essence that one responds, not to the specifics. In other words, through your being, one decides whether or not to go out on a limb for you – whether or not to be cooperative or assist you. And it’s through your being, that another sees the change that they wish to be – beginning too, their transformation!
If you wish to have more meaning and purpose in your life, try viewing your work as an opportunity to serve humanity. We don’t often think of our jobs that way. Minds think of work as a “have to” – a way to make money. Have you ever felt about work as a “wish to?” – “ I wish to serve the world through my work”. We have been conditioned to see the tasks of work as our focus. Isn’t it really that success at work is more dependent upon relationships?
It was said by Mahatma Gandhi, “My life is my message”. I invite you to look at your work as your message. Let your work be the way you serve humanity – not yourself. Serve it well. Make your life a message of love, compassion, kindness and God. Be your true Self in the workplace, and allow the God within your heart to flow with the heart of another. In this way you are being the change you wish to see. Watch as your workplace changes to a place of essence, instead of a place of ego. Let this 2012 change in focus – this transformation - begin with you.
Manifold blessings in this New Year!
